Not only aro all tho contentious of the city sustained, it is declared, but I he city may. recover $7900 from the detendant canal companies for money f expended iu excess of the city's share in pumping water from Utah lake. Heretofore Salt Lake City has been, payine one-fifth the cost of pumping operations at the Utah lake pumping station, but lias been getting only about ouo-tenth of the amount of wa ter raised from the lake. Under tho supreme court opinion the canal com-j com-j panics are liable to the city for tho amount thus expended iu excess of the city's shnro and hereafter the city j will have to pay only its proportionate share, based on the amount of water j used. This will mean a suving of sev eral thousand dollars a year to the city. |
