Show COMET PLACER IS PLACIWIMI Black Sand to Be Separated From Gravel and Treated Independently. Activo work, has started on the property prop-erty of the Comet Placer Mining company com-pany in Humboldt county. Nevada, about eighteen miles from Sulphur on the Western Pacific railway. This property was recently acquired by L. G. Burton, the well known mining engineer of Salt Luke, who is now at the property installing in-stalling equipment to work the ground. The ground which hns been secured by the company totals 3520 . acres and Includes In-cludes some lorritory which is thought to contain tho ledgo from which the gold values have conic. Mr. Burton took fifty samples from the ground and assays as-says show better than $1 per cubic yard. A distinctive feature of tho formation l the Comet Is the occurrence of black sand, which Is scattered in many places over thp aurfaee. This black sand carries car-ries high values In gold and the property prop-erty Is to be operated so that the sand will be separated from the gravel and treated indepnnd$nlly. Sluice boxes aro liclng titled up with false bottoms, allowing allow-ing the sand to be thus separated from the gravel. Tho gravel Is then sluiced while the sand will be treated on tables. Assays from the sand have yielded from $41 per ton to many times that amount, and it is hclievcd by tbo.-.n interested In the properly thai this method of treatment treat-ment will enable a hlg saving and make the property a profil maker.
