Show PIONEER VIGILANTE DIES IN CALIFORNIA SAN FRANCISCO, May I'.O. Cap lain A. M. Burns, a picturesque figure in the ooriy days of California, died hero yesterday at tho age of SO. Captain Burns came lo San Francisco in 3850 and played an eventful part in the regime of the vigilantes. His name was the eighth on tho list of citizens citi-zens who cloared tho city of the buccaneers buc-caneers who held sway in the late 'OOs. and it was said to bo he who prepvrcd tho ropo which hanged Charles Cora, tho gambler, and James P. Casey, the outlaw, for the murder of James King in .1S56. Captain Burns ran away from his home in Philadelphia whnu he was 12 vcurs old and went to sea. Ho went to Panama in 1S10, remaining there a vear beforo coming to fan Francisco.
