WWW OF POPE IS SLIGHTLY WORSE 'sleep of Pontiff Less Tranquil; Pains in Affected Knee Awake Him Twice. HIS TEMPERATURE HIGHER Physicians Watchful, Fearing Possibility of a Relapse With Fatal Result. ROME, Aug. 15. 12:S0"a. m. Pope Plus Is not so well al. this hour as ho was early last (Monday) night His sleep has been less tranquil and he twice awoko complaining of pains In the afTectod knee. His temperature also has slightly increased over that of the early hours of the night. ROME, Aug. 14. While'' the condition of Pope Pius throughout tho day continued con-tinued to mend, his physicians still arc watchful lo a degree. They are forbidding forbid-ding any exertion In fear of a relapse Which, they say, his weakened condition would he less able to withstand. This morning found his holiness more comfortable than yesterday and his temperature tem-perature about normal. Tonight, tho temperature tem-perature had risen a few degrees, but. the kidneys Were working more satisfactorily, which contributed to the genera relief of the patient. The swollen knee Is now bolng treated only with flaxseed poultices. Again today the pontiff sought relief In his armchair from the restlessness Induced In-duced by lying lij, one position In his bed. Numerous dispntches from all parts of the world expressing hopes for the pope's 'quick recovery continue to arrive at the Vatican. One which was especially appreciated came from the municipality of the pontiff's pon-tiff's birthplace, the town of RIose. ln the Venetian provinces. It was signed by the mayor, who Is a poor shopkeeper, and his holiness personally dictated an answer through Cardinal Merry del Val. The sisters' nnd niece of Pope Plus, who go twice dally to tho Vatican to see him. have been annoyed by photographers and men with moving-picture machines so much that the police were compelled today to-day to detail two detectives to sec that, the women were not molested. Although he has been Urged to do so by the pone. Cardinal Merry del Val -Is still unwilling to leave the Vatican for his summer home until his hollness's recovery re-covery Is complete. ,
