Grant's arrival here has thrown ajlfjht on the 1911 Vandcrbllt cup situation which was news to .local motorists, who have been fearlncr there would be no more renewals of the classic. "Certainly they are planning; to run tho Vandorbllt again thin year." says Grant. "They are now trying to have tho New York state law amended so that it will bo possible to secure the militia to taiard tho course. Under the new ruling of Chnlr-man Chnlr-man Butler of the A. A. A. the soldiers will have to be secured before a sanction will be granted. It looks now as If the law will be amended to permit of this, but If it Is not It Is said the big race will be run at Lowell. Mass., where the national na-tional stock chassis road races were run two years ago. That course would be a ood one for the Ions: grind, and as tho owellltes aro only too eager to have the raco I fully believe I will have an opportunity oppor-tunity to defend my title. "My first racing this 3prlng will be at Indianapolis, where 1 Intend making a bid for that $10,000 which Is hung up tor tho 500-mile race on the speedway May 30. That should make a srand race and the winner certainly will have to do bettor than seventy-tlvc miles an hour to pull down the coin. I hope tho track will bo banked more on the turns before that race, for now it will not stand much more than ninety miles an hour. "I would llko to go over to France and have a try for honors in tho Grand Prix, which, I understand, they are going to rovivo next summer, but I guess I will have all I want to do hero at home." |
