Show News of Manti. Special to The Tribune. MANTI. Feb. 4. A mass meeting of tho citizens of Mantl that portion opposed to the Mantl forest reserve being monopolized monopo-lized by the large sheep and cattle owners own-ers was held Wednesday evening at tho council house for the purpose of effecting an organization and bringing tho matter before tho forestry officials. During the past year all now applicants for grazing permits for sheep have been turned down, owing to the fact that the reserve was already over-grazed. That any now application should not be granted grant-ed was denounced as unjust by the meeting, meet-ing, so long as the new applicant was a properly owner and a resident In tho vicinity of the reserve. In order to accomplish a reform in this matter It will be necessary to lessen tho number allotted those now using the range as new applications are made. A committee was appointed to draft resolutions and effect a county organization. organiza-tion. Word has reached here from Gunnison that Reld Voorhocs was shot In the leg on Wednesday by the accidental discharge dis-charge of a shotgun. The accident occurred oc-curred while Voorhees and a Mr. Swal-bcrg Swal-bcrg were cleaning their guns. |
