Show THE EARLY CLOSING MOVEMENT. The movement for the closing of tho stores of this city early on Saturday night appears to bo taking hold of the business men and the ccneral public iD the right spirit. Tho peoplo usually accommodate themselves readily to changes suchvas this. In the early times of tho settlement of any region, it is quite comm m for stores to bo open on Suuday and la.e every night. But as a more settled order or-der w-'rks in, there is a shortening of the hours, and in consequence the tnx upon the strength and time of those who attend to the business of the stores becomes less as tho hours cf closing at night comes earlier and earlier; and finally the Sunday closing also comes, the community gradually accommodating itself to the change. Gradually it will do so here, and to tho advantage of all concerned. It would bo greatly to the advantage of tin clerks, who there by wou.d bo given an opportunity to have their own time to livo their own lives on Saturday Satur-day evening, and to be ablo to attend the meetings of tho respective churches to which they belong tho next morning, morn-ing, i Ad ihen, of oven more consequence, conse-quence, perhaps, tho laboring men will not postpone the purchase of their family fam-ily supplies until a lato hour, but would first attend to thoso purchases, so as to assure supplies for the enusing week-then week-then ;f they, felt obliged to go to the saloou for a glass of bcor, thoy could do so with lighter hearts, knowing that their families were provided for for th'o ensuing week, and 'knowing that what they spent for drink would not inflict such hardship on'thoso they best love. The Tribuno has been inclined from tho first to favor this closiug movement, move-ment, as tending 'toward a bettor stand-ard stand-ard of living, taking tho community at large; and as being of immense help along various lines, affecting large numbers of peoplo who could live better, bet-ter, moro comfortably, and bo better in various ways, with this early Satur day closing movemout settled upon all around. |
