James Forgic, proprietor of the Korsle hotel of this place, perished in the flames that destroyed de-stroyed his hotel early this morning-. All the guests had escaped from the burning building and Forgic had also reached safety when someone raised the cry lo save David Forgle. the 6-year-old son of the proprietor. Forgic, who was in his night clothes, rushed Dack into the hotel and was not scon again until his charred remains were found in the ruins of the hotel this arternoon. The littlo boy whom Forgic had gono to rescue had already been saved, though this fact was unknown to the father. The lire in the hotel broko out just before be-fore midnight. The alarm was sounded In time for all the guests to escape. May-nard May-nard Grlssman leaped from the second story window and is suffering from a sprained ankle. No one save Forgic was at all Injured. The guests escaped In their night e-lothing and were taken to nearby residences. The cold was intense. in-tense. , The hotel burned quickly and only the rapid and cool headed work of the Ilre-nien Ilre-nien saved the adjacent buildings. The hotel was burned to the ground. All the contents were destroyed. The loss on the hotel Is from SS000 to 510.000. The insurance insur-ance was ?5000. The Forgle hotel was one of the best known hostclrlcs of southern Utah. U was erected Jn 1902 and became famous as a headquarters for mining men from all parts of the country. Forgie Prominent Mining Man. Forgic was one of the most prominent mining prospectors of the west. lie was born in the county of Down. Irol&nd. February Feb-ruary 25. 1S81. He came lo Amorlca in 1871 and lived for a tlmo ln Chicago. In 1S75 ho came to Beaver county, Utah, to engage In mining in what was then known as North Star, but what in now bhauntie. Two years later he went to. Frisco, Utah, and engaged in the liquor business Later ho was a member of the firm of Forgie & Olson In the general merchandise business. On January 1. 1SS0. he married Gomes Ilildebrand at Frisco. Forgle returned lo Shauntic In 1SS0 and located the famous Jennie mine. In 18SH he went to Idaho, where he was a ranchman for two or three vcars. Then lie returned to MIlTord and" became famous fa-mous as a prospector. Among the famous fa-mous ore bodies located by him was the famous Gomes claim, now a part of the Harrington Hickory workings. From 1002 he was In the hotel business at Milford. operating the Forglo hotel in the burning of which ho lost his life this morning. Forgle Is survived by a widow and ton children, tlvo of whom are mnrrled. Two sisters and three brothers also survive him. |
