Show SIX COLLEGIATES IDE GRADUATED Twenty-Ninth Annual Commencement Com-mencement Held at Prcshy-terian Prcshy-terian Church. Five young women and one young man wero graduated Thursday night from Ihc Salt Lake Collcglato Institute, The Iwonty-nlnth annual commencement exercises ex-ercises wero held at the First Presbyterian Presby-terian church, with music and orallonu by members of the graduating class and other pupils of the Institute. The choral work of the students was exceptionally good. The school i;ang tin; chorus. "Tho Old Guard," and the gins chorus sang "The Bout Song'' and O. Lovely Night." Other delightful musical numbers were contributed by Orpha A. Klsor, Anna Songbcrg and Kathryn Tup-per. Tup-per. A plea for Christian colleges wns made by Iva Dell Murphy. Miss Murphy said Dial tho Idonl college must administer to the Intellectual, physical and religious side of the Individual. This, she said, can be done only hi the Christian college. col-lege. In an oration entitled "The First Citizen of Chicago," Miss Margarel G. Lee eulogized the work of Jane Addnms, who established the Hull hoiiHC, the lead-Intr lead-Intr settlement Institution In tho world. Miss Marguerite White Whitman paid a pretty tribute lo Mark Twain In her oration. Miss Orpha A. Klsor spoke on "Tho Children of Destiny." and Miss Edith Jeffrey on "Books as Friends." An oration on the guarantee of bank deposits depos-its was given by Frnnk C. Vlbrans. Superintendent Sweazey prescnlcd the Meld day medals lo the athletes securing the most points. Victor H. Wood was given a gold medal as first prize. He had forty points to his credit. Ren Tomtln and Leslie Johnson wore tied for second placo, and drew lots to see which should be given the prlzo. Tomtln won the medal. The exorcises closed with benediction by the Rev. W. M. Pnden, D. D. Those in the graduating class were: Edith Jeffrey of Bingham, Margaret G. Lee of Spanish Fork, Iva Dell Murphy of American Fork. Marguerite White Whitman of MontrUer, Ida.; Orpha A. Klsor of Salt Lake, and Frank C. Vlbrans Vl-brans of Border, W'yo. |
