This short lino lo tho coast has, ever since ils lirst opening, boon ono of the great assets of Salt Lako City. Wo gel access lo tho semi-tropical climate and products of southern California, and the southern Californians net our products and get access to our bracing climate in a day, 7t is all very highly to the advantage of both, and both have enjoyed en-joyed it to tho full; this routo's service serv-ice has also been of incstimablo benefit bene-fit to all the region between this city and the coast, that region having had a markot opened to it for Us products of'ovcry kind, from ores to fruits. It is a rich region along this liuu or road, one affording amplo business for the carrier, and of corresponding advantage to the settlers on the line, bolh in c i 1 3' and eountry. They hnvo been earnest, diligent and generous in pushing tho work of reconstruction re-construction after the discouraging floods of last winter which washed out 115 miles of Iheir track. It was a heavy problem they had to solve, but tl:y went at it wjith stout hearts and willing minds. The rsull is tho. reconstruction of tho destroyed part of the road -ami the opening of the full lino in an almost al-most incredibly short spaco of timo. During tho coldest, part of the winter, very littlo could bo dono even by way of preliminary work. But as soon as the weather admitted of it, the work was begun in earnest, and was pushed with an energy and zeal lhat brought surprising sur-prising results. The track is ready, and tomorrow tho full benefit can bc enjoyed by all. It is a groat achievement, achieve-ment, and everybody will rejoice in it and congratulate thoso who brought itj about. |
