Is a prisoner awaiting trial on a charge of burglary In tho third degree. Tonight Stratton asked for morphine, but his request re-quest was denied. The man then had resort to a unique method of satisfying his craving for opium. He chewed a quantity of tobacco and brewed tho juice, thus extracted over a fir6, kindled w Ith cigarette papers. pa-pers. He opened one of the vr-lns In his arm with a sharp nail and Injected, probably prob-ably by means of a piece of wire, the concoction into the blood. He became a raving maniac shortly after tho efftcls of the poison manifested themselves. Dr. Anna Rles, the city physllcan. gave Stratton an Injection of medicine and he became quiet again. He will recover. |
