| Show WRECKED the story of the evanston train wreck AS BELATED BY ONE OF THE passengers H W naisbitt arrested this borni ag special to the ENQUIRER J SALT LAKE feb 1 A bumber of the victims of the evanston Eva naton wreck which occurred on the evening of the of january are at alie various hotels in this city one injured man gave the following particulars to alie ENQUIRER correspondent ninety passengers were delayed at pocatello by the snow blockade they took the oregon short line to evanston Eva naton at nugget station they encountered a broke rail and five cars were derailed several persons being injured arriving at evanston Evan a special train was made up for passengers bound for ogden and salt lake there were about ninety in number after going about fourteen miles the engine left the track at a curve and ran five hundred feet completely demolishing the engine aad cars many were injured but not seriously others who received only slight wounds they built a fire of the wreck and timbers and endeavored deavo red to keep warm A telegraph operator chanced to be on board and connecting with the wire telegraphed to evanston for assistance the train left for the wreck ran into an open switch and it was five hours before aid arrived alie passengers who were able proceeded on their way to ogden while those who were seriously wounded were taken to evanston II 11 W NAISBITT special to the ENQUIRER SALT LAKE feb 1 H W an employee of Z CM I 1 was arrested this morning for unlawful cohabitation examination was set for monday AN SESSION special to the SALT LAKE jan 30 the utah commission held an important session this morning ADMISSION washington jan 31 special to the herald the territorial committee of alie house had a hearing today to day on alie question of statehood for idaho delegates awas confined to his bed so alie time was given to judge wilson who spoke for an leour and a half in behalf of the cormons mormons of idaho his arguments substantially the same as hig speech before the senate committee he based his opposition to statehood on the disfranchisement of this church on alie increased taxation and on the lack of resources and population of alie territory he protested against the cormons mormons being forced to accept taxation without representation george Q cannon bishop budge judge carlton late of the utah com nR wildman of the idaho statesman hon W J mcconnell and judge weir were present as spectators after listening to judge wilson the committee adjourned until monday next when delegate will be heard AN ARMY OF A complicated CASE special to the ENQUIRES COLUMBIA 8 C feb 1 A case of unusual interest and with a considerable flavor of romance in it is now engaging the attention of the courts in greenville county salathiel lathiel La martin a wealthy and respected farmer died at his home in greenville air august 1888 he left a will bequeathing almost his entire estate to his second cifa whom he had married in 1886 she was beffre her marriage to him the widow or believed she basof Alex Simmons who ran away and left her in 1883 mrs simmons heard no more of her husband iLone day word came that he was dead hearing no more of him she put credence in the story of his demise and married mr martin aa has been stated the children by the first wife of mr martin five in all did not like the provi sens of the will however by he ordinary channels ft few mouths ago word came that the husband of mr martins second wife was still alive and was living happily with wife no 2 in hartwell ga in the hearing yesterday affidavits from two persons were submitted to show that they had recently seen simmons alive in hartwell when this became known the heire saw an opening for a contest of the will and proceeded to avail themselves of it on the ground that although mra simmons had committed nc arriage with mr martin while believing that she was perfectly free to do so still a a husband was baill living was illegal and tinder the statutes regarding suet basea she Is only entitled to one courtl of the estate |
