council met in regular session last night mavor dusenberry in the chair the absentees were alderman brown and councillors councilors Counci lors bean and dixon the petition and claim of J G coltrin for damages resulting from bad street crossing for was referred to the committee on claims the petition of heed smoot asking the council to grant a franchise to provo woolen mills to erect poles on the streets for the purpose of establishing an electric light plant and electric motor was presented the mayor read a number of communications icat ions from various electric light corn panics praying for the franchise for provo city among the communications was one from mr T E daniels and others the petition of reed smoot on mo diun tiun of mr farrer was referred to the committee on streets and alleys tho report of the city marchal was read showing nineteen arrests in fines and twenty one head of stock impounded report in relation to the petition of praying that certain property be not taxed as it was not by city taxes was read the report of the attorney cited the decision of the supreme court in the matter of the people vs daniels that property not within the corporate limits could not he taxed as such unless it was shown that such property was bene fitted by the same alderman stott moved the report of the attorney he accepted and the petition be not granted holdaway and farrer in favor of not being too hasty as alie city might save n law suit by taking time to consider the matter mr scott amended his motion to the effect that it be referred to the committee on judiciary carried the petition of S S jones johnson praying for the privilege of aing material of the sand bank in the south pasture land was presented mr scott was of the opinion that alie city would require
