It has gono hard against the gTain for tho opposition papers to print the facts about tho mighty progTCSR in population, popu-lation, business, and general growth which Salt Lako has shown tho past threo yoars, and especially the present .vear. While decaying tho political administrative ad-ministrative positions of the cit-, they havo been compelled as a matter of news to givo tho lio to their wails, and to admit tho triumphant progress that tho city is making, tho spleudid growth and development which it cnjo's. A conspicuous instanco of the reluctance reluc-tance of tho opposition press to acknowledge ack-nowledge the facts, and to givo the city credit for its glorious advancement, is found in -csterda- morning's Smoot "Mouth." Tt declared, in glaring headlines, head-lines, iu an article treating of local conditions, that "businoss is waiting for election," and in tho opening words of tho article that business is at a standstill. stand-still. And 3'et, in its other local columns it noted the big renlt' deal for $300,-000 $300,-000 involving tho Metropolitan hotel corner and other proport' in that vicinity; vi-cinity; declared it to be the first of a series which is under way; and iu another an-other place it presented, under big lines, tho fact that this is the banner 3car for new structures in this cit-. Isn !t it curious that all this, and man3' more good thing., can bo said for the city, and are consiant'3" being said in Tho Tribuno and other papers, aDd even in the. "Mouth." and still business is "waiting for the election" and "at a standstill!." ...... The fact is; the city is growing tro-mcndousl-, aud it is the American party that makes it grow. Everybod- knows this, though it suits some to deny it for political and bigoted purpose. And it is the same sort of bigoted, reactionary falsehood that causes tho "Mouth" in one column to den- tho progress and business activit' of the city, and in othors of its own columns to give tho lie absolute to its denial. It't a hard world for such liars and political, fanatical prostitution of facts and conditions. |
