Show M'BURNEY CUP PRESENTED TO BOYS; AN INTERESTING PROGRAM RENDERED Enthusnism was the predominant characteristic of those who attended the presentation of the diplomas and certificates in the- lobby of the Y, M. C. A. building Wednesday night. It was cnrjiusiasm for tho work of the bovs who for the second lime had won for the local Y. M. C. A. the Mc-Bitrnoy Mc-Bitrnoy cup, in competition with all of the as'socialions of the principal cities of the United States. John Dern presented the eup to the students with a few remarks relative to the oducational valuo of the institution insti-tution and its effect for nood upon thoir future. That the making of the citizens was primarily concerned with tho correct training of the adolescent youth was tho note that ran throughout through-out his brief address. The exercises wore oponod with selection se-lection on tho organ by Maroni .Gillespie, .Gil-lespie, which was followed by a solo by Fred C. Graham. - 1). II. Christ-ciiseii. At 0:80 o'clock in the evening tho student; council tendered tho winners of the cup a dinner which was held in the club room situated on the upper doot of the I'.iildii),. A short pry gramme was rendered consisting of re marks by .7. G. "White, an original inon-ologuo inon-ologuo by Otto L, Saal and a reading entitled ".Facetious Remarks, " which was rendered by Earnest A. Hoare. The presentation of the McBurnev cup takes place semi-annually throughout through-out the United States, being competed for hy all of the associations. It was started after the death of Robert Mc-Burnoy, Mc-Burnoy, who was the general secretary secre-tary of tho association and who erected tho first Y. M. C. A. building in North America. This building was erected on the corner of Twenty-third street and Fifth avenue in New York. Upon his death he set aside a certain portion por-tion of his wealth for tho cup. The MeBurnoy cup is awardod on two basis. Basis number one requires that the association having the largest number num-ber of boys passing the international examination shall be awarded the cup, and basis number two requires the awarding of tho cup to the association having the largest percentage of members mem-bers passing the international examination. examina-tion. The Salt Lnke City association has won the cup this yoar ou both bases, and in tho event that the association should be tho winner next year the cup will remain here.
