Show TIIE experimental FARM the chamber of commerce meeting last night to discuss the matter last night in pursuance to the call of president dusenberry of the chamber of commerce a mass meeting of the citizens was held in the council chamber to consider what inducements could be made for the establishment of the experimental peri mental agricultural farm in provo the president in his opening remarks alluded to alie bill passed by congress appropriating per annum for the establishment of an experimental agricultural farm the question that faced the meeting was can wo offer the legislature adv inducements to cause them to establish the experimental farm in this locality achi and spanish fork have moved in this direction and have offered substantial inducements for the purpose the secretary then read the congressional act approved march providing for the establishment of experimental agricultural farms in alie states and territories sir T J patten stated that he in connection with V K henry and jas A loveless had been appointed by alie citizens of provo bench to represent the advantages of a beautiful site of land in that locality just suitable for the establishment lish ment it an experimental farm the early and late frosts do not reach the place there is plenty of ft ater power rich and every natural facility and advantage that could be possibly desired for experimental purposes wells w ere being sunk in the district and no finer land could be wished for there might be an offer made by other places of money and yet have bad locations most decidedly the first thing and in fact the most desirable thing should be the site of land mr george sutherland thought the proper tiling to do would be to petition the legislature for the of the agricultural college if a location for the college was selected then alie next thing in order would be to have the experimental station located unless the college v as established there could not be any experimental farm located he thought a committee should be appointed to draft a petition to this effect mr decd smoot then moved that a committee of three from the members of the chamber of commerce be appointed to operate with the legislature for the establishment of alie agricultural college in provo the motion was seconded and carried and reed smoot james dunn and A A noon were appointed said committee the chair stated that the committee would be authorized to move in alie matter any way that they felt would be for the attainment of the object desired secretary george sutherland said that he had received a telegram from dunbar co of omaha fc tating that the pamphlet being printed for the chamber of commerce descriptive of the resources and attractions of provo would be shipped next week there had been considerable trouble experienced with the publishers of the work mr george sutherland moved that the regular meetings of alie chamber be discontinued with the understanding that meetings v ill be called for whenever any subject of importance comes up seconded and carried ahe meeting the call of the chair |
