Show A GOLDEN CHANCE inducements por a mill UNEQUALED NATURAL facilities AND advantages men with grit and capital wanted to start the boom situated about half a mile north of springville Spring ville proper is a spring of springs which ia truly a marvel month after and year after year for the past thirty five years or even as far hack as the oldest residents can recollect it has yielded a steady unceasing flow there not being any perceptible increase or diminution in the size of the stream the of this immense spring covers about two acre sand appears to be made up of innumerable smaller ones in some places the water forces itself up through a fine gray sand in others the sand is brown black glaring white and red the whole forming a groundwork ground work as beautiful as it is varied the liquid is as transparent as crystal affording an unobstructed view of its depths which are both summer and winter with delicious little tufts of spring green watercress reminding one in winter of perpetual spring in a polar region the supply seems to issue from the very bowels of the earth not dependent upon the fall of rain and abow in the immediate vicinity another remarkable feature ia connected with aliis spring and that is that its water never freezee free zea its ingredients resist the coldest weather to which this section is subjected well was alie stream named spring creek which issues from the above described source A quarter of a mile from the head of the spring is a large dam bulks the whole flow giving it considerable depth and forming a great pond about two blocks further west of this bank is situated an old grist mill which is in rather a dilapidated condition alie water is still coursing lazily down the race gli the antique flume and falls with a roar into the tail race below then out beyond the public highway where it meets and is lost in the greater volume which escapes through a defect in the above mentioned embankment taking a more precipitous and direct route years ago there was a flourishing grist mill at this place but when improved machinery was imported this mill was not replenished so in time it became obsolete why some springville Spring ville or provo capitalists do not improve this invaluable spot seems strange for there is not a more desirable site in the territory for a roller mill or woolen factory or in fact any enterprise where water power is an essential some four years ago a company was incorporated with the object of erecting a roller mill at this point but on account of mismanagement the project fell gli the mill site is not more than half a mile from the most distant of the small springs and the race which is in good condition is not over two blocks in length the race was dug to admit sufficient water to run a twenty inch tur bine wheel but with slight enlargement it would convey enough to run two such wheels affording a fall of sixteen feet while most water power mills are obliged to close down during the greater part of the winter because the water freezes up one at this place could march right along a halt for the water was never known to freeze another advantage over most mills is that during a season of droughts or irrigating time they are compelled to shut down on account of scarcity of water but here alie stream changes not a whit and is not used for irrigating purposes vir dually springville Spring ville is without a flour mill during three or four months in summer and a month or so in winter during the irrigating season and the coldest snaps of winter the old mill site could not be bettered it being only a quarter of a mile from the D E G W and a mile from the utah central railroads and right on the main road between springville Spring ville and provo which is generally lined with grain laden teams carrying mill stuff to and from market with the necessary improvements just the mill site would be worth twenty thousand dollars instead of six thousand at which it and tho water right are quoted under conditions there is no reason why a roller mill situated here should not supply provo spring ville spanish fork payson and all the smaller settlements in the neighborhood which places include a population of over thousand it is everywhere admitted eliat a roller mill always holds ita own and very often takes the entire trade from the other flour milla which before its advent appeared to be progressing favorably Ther eire four or live acrea of water situated above alie dam and as many below if stocked with fish and properly taken care of would bring a mint of money carp have been raised in this water on a small scale gratifying success there is now a small pond teeming those handsome fel borne liing as much as ten p ands the value of five or ten acres well stocked with fish and backed bv judicious management would be incalculable cu lable the fish would find ample food ra alie ever green watercress water cress which lines the stream and ponda there is always a ready sale for good fish and nothing is more wholesome it is understood eliat tho present owner of this invaluable location wishes to improve it but has not alie necessary means to make the required improvements but is willing to turn in alie mill site etc for shares in the proposed scheme should una one see alie beauties of such an undertaking there is no roller mill within a radius of forty miles and a good one should be worth a fortune utah county beema rather backward in this respect being unable to boast of a single roller mill within its limits this certainly is not because the people do not appreciate ifa superiority over other faour mills ia it it is asserted by good authority eliat half a dozen woolen mills in this county would make it more remunerative for all than only ono or two much if not all the trade is diverted from the val lev would thereby be secured yow is the time for some enterprising person to step in erect a fine roller mill or factory or in fact both for the is adequate JAKE utah feb 1888 |
