Show LOCATE SALT LAKE SHOPS AT LAS VEGAS i Ruildings Will Cost $500,000 and Give Employment to 400 Men. A special dispatch to Tho Tribune from San Bernardino, Cal., contains the interesting: news that the general machine ma-chine and. repair shops of tho Salt Lako route are to be located at Las Vegas, New Tho dispatch follows: The San Pedro, Los Angeles & Salt Lake railroad has decided to locate its general machine and repair shops at Las Vegas, New Their construction will begin within thirty days, and they will cost at least $300,000. The buildings, build-ings, machinory and equipment of the shops will furnish employment for 400 men, and the cost will probablv run up to $500,000 by tho time the full plans are worked out. The construction as well as repair work of the entire system will bo done at Las Vegas, bo .that tho hoadquartors of the high officials of tho mechanical department will probably be removed from Los Angeles to Las Vegas The new location is degarded by railroad rail-road officials to bo an admirable one, as it is 447 miles from Salt Lake City, 334 miles from Los Angeles and fifty-six fifty-six miles from the California stato'line. It is also tho junction of the Salt Lake railroad and the Las Vegas & Tonopah railroad, of which J. Ross Clark, brother of former Senator W. A. Clark, owner of the San Pedro. L03 Angoles & Salt Lake railroad, is president. Tho moment it became known that the shops were to bo located at Las Vegas, real estate there took, a sudden boom. One lot, 50 by 150 feet, located near the center of tho town, and which sold for $1500 four 3'ears ago, brought $10,000 Tuesday. |
