Paul Morr, of 114(5 Cleveland avo nuo, a carpenter and painter, was arrested ar-rested at his homo by Deputy Sheriff Andrew Smith, Jr., Monday afternoon, charged with the burglary of about sioO worth of provisions, flower and garden seed, insect powder uud garden and carpenter car-penter tools from tho Granilo Grain compuuy. Twelfth South and Eleventh East streets, more thau a month ago. Morr, who is 29 years old and and of German descont, broko down and admitted ad-mitted his guilt, but pleaded for clemency clem-ency on tho grounds that it was his first offenso. A large part of tho stolen stuff was recovered. It was found secreted upon Morr's premises. Attention was attracted to Morr by his attempted theft of a set of harness from the Murphy Candy compauy's place of business, at Ninth East and Twelfth South streets, Sunday. Morr was caught carrying tho harness away and forced to disgorge his loot. The sheriff's office was notified and Deputy De-puty Smith detailed on the cose. Deputy Sheriff Smith went to Morr's houso Monday afternoon and made a search for tho 6tolcn goods, at the instance in-stance of tho Granite Grain company. Concealed in an outhouse and chicken coops, he found some of the stuff mid ho then sciirched tho house and found the remainder of it coucealed in the pantry. Morr gained entrance to the Granite Grain company's place of business by cutting a pano of glnss, 16 by 32 inches, out ot a rear window. He then drove his wagon around to the rear, opened tho rear door and loaded the stuff into tho wagon by wholesale and drove away. Morr tearfully pleaded with the Gian-itu Gian-itu Grain company to allow him to go, as the majority of the stolen stuff was recovered aud returned. Had he not attempted the theft of tho harness, it is probable that he would not have been detected in the theft from tho grain companj-. Tt is also alleged that he stole a set of harness from a neighobr. Morr denied that he altompted to steal tho set of harness from the candy company, com-pany, declaring that he just sat on vhc fence and looked at it. |
