Show AN ORDINANCE to regulate drivers of public ton Tey ances and fruit peddlers SECTION 1 be it ordained by the city council of provo city that no person following tho employment of haakman ha ekman cabman omnibus driver coach driver or daiv er of any passenger vehicle or soliciting patronage for any such vehicle shall while actually engaged in his employment as such at any railroad depot leave his hack omnibus coach express wagon or other vehicle but shall remain within six feet of said coach hack cab omnibus express wagon or other vehicle except it be to secure when requested the baggage of his passengers SEC 2 no person following tho employment of fruit peddler hackman omnibus driver porter or driver of any passenger vehicle shall enter into or upon rad car depot platform or upon any passage or landing leading thereto while actually engaged in his employment as such provided herein shall prevent any person from entering in or upon any railroad car depot platform or upon any passage leading thereto for the purpose of procuring the baggage of any passenger after having first obtained and exhibited to tho person in charge cf such railroad car depot platform or passage the check or checks of such passenger for his baggage SEC 3 no runner hackman omnibus driver porter or driver of any pass vehicle or other public conveyance shall at any time when engaged in his employment obstruct any street or sidewalk make any unusual noise or disturbance unnecessarily snap or flourish his whip use any indecent profane or obscene language or be guilty of boisterous or loud talking orderly conduct or use any language or be guilty of any conduct calculated to disturb the public peace or good order of the city or harass vex annoy or disturb any person there being or passing SEC 4 all public passenger vehicles licensed under the ordinances city shall be numbered with plain figures painted thereon not less than one and one half inches in length which shall always bo kept conspicuously in view said number shall be famished by the city decord er at tho time of issuing the license SEC 6 every public vehicle for the conveyance of passengers when driven or used in the night timo shall have fixed upon some ous part of the outside thereof two lighted lamps with plain glass sides and shall havo the number of such vehicle in plain legible figures upon each of the outer sides of baid lamps in such a manner that the same may bo distinctly seen and every such vehicle which has a door or doors to tho same shall have a knob or handle upon the inside of each door by which said door may be easily opened from the inside thereof SEC 6 there shall be fixed in every licensed vehicle used for abo conveyance of passengers in such a manner as can bo conveniently read by an y person riding therein a card with the name of the owner of such vehicle and the number of his license written or printed thereon and for a failure so to do the owner of such vehicle shall be liable to a fine in any sum not to exceed twenty five dollars and upon conviction thereof shall forfeit his license said card shall be furnished by tho city recorder free of charge and any person mutilating tearing down or otherwise destroying said card shall be fined not to exceed twenty five dollars SEC 7 every passenger shall be allowed to have conveyed upon such public vehicle without charge his ordinary baggage not to exceed one hundred and fifty pounds in weight SEC 8 any person violating any of the provisions of this ordinance where no other penalty is prescribed shall be liable to a line in any sum not to exceed one hundred dollars passed fob 18 A D 1889 WILSON H mayor of provo city attest J J FULLER city recorder TERRITORY OF UTAH UTAH COUNTY f CITY I 1 J J cullor ju llor recorder in and for provo city utah county and territory of utah hereby certify that the foregoing is a full true and correct copy of an ordinance to ro bulato drivers of public conveyances and fruit peddlers passed by the city council of provo city february 18 A D 1889 J J city recorder |
