J-arkin. for the last seven months a respected resident of thla city, died at hie home. 764 Belmont avo-nue, avo-nue, Friday evening' at 3 o'clock from general debility. He was sixty-one years old. The Rev. Mr. Larkln camo to this city last June to tako charge of the pastorate of tho Phillips Congregational church, while the pastor, tho Rev. P. A. Slmpkln, wa3 In attendance at tho international council of tho Congregational church at Edlnborough, Scotland. Ho camo here from Austin, Tex., whero for twenty years he had boon doing missionary work among the negroes. Ue was born in Devonshire. England, coming to this country about twenty-flvo years ago. When the Rev. Mr. Larkln camo to tnls city to tako care of the pastorate of tho Phillips Congregational church It was the first work he had dono among white people peo-ple for twenty years. The Rev. Mr- Larkln had not been at all well for some time; In fact, his health had been falling him ever since Dr. Slmpkln Slmp-kln returned from Europe, but his death was not expected so soon and come as a great shock to the hosts of friends he had mado in thla city since his coming hero several, months ago. He was liked and respected by all who knew him. Ho had lived a good and self-sacrlfictng life, and his death is deeply regrotted. Tho Rev. Mi;. Larkln Is survived by a widow and live children, three sons and two daughters, all of whom were at his bedside when ho died. They do not all live here, but had oomo to tills city to 6pend Christmas with tnelr parents, especially espe-cially owing to tholr father's 111 health. Tho oldest son, Thomas, Is a teacher at the Talladega collego of Alabama. The other children are Frederick. Ernest. Ethel Eth-el and Mary. Ernest Is employed at the local headquarters of the Oregon Short Line. The youngest daughter, Ethel, Is the only one who lives at home. The Rev. Mr. Larkln's death came peacefully. The. funeral will be held at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon from the Phillips Congregational church, the Rev. P. A. Slmpkln officiating. |
