UNIVERSITY TO BE I INITIATED IN GAME il Logan Five Won Title Last I Year and Expect to H With the opening game of theState Intercollegiate Basketball league aerien only one week away, the prospoct3 for a successful season aro brighter than The B. Y. G., that won the champion-ship champion-ship from tho other colleges last year, and the Provo boys from the B. Y. TJ.. who lost out in tho final game, will both bo back with strong teams again this .'H 3-car. Roskelley, tho captain for the B. Y. C, and Wainsgnnrd aro both mombers of the team that took tho trip iH to Chicago last winter. Naturally, hav-ing hav-ing won the title for two consecutive jH years, the Logan boys arc in the game jH to try and repeat the (.rick. -H The B. Y. V. aggregation is if any- . jH thing in better shape than ever. Cap- H lam Chamberlain is back and with him Jiro three more of last year's regulars. Jones, tho speedy guard, Rose anrl J. Christensen arc in school and have been practicing regularly since the begin-ning begin-ning of November. Fred Benniou is coach at tho institution, and while ho iM has not had a great deal of experience in basketball he figures on taking first money in the championship race. Five of the seven men who composed last year's first squad at the L. I. S. TJ. iM arc in harness again. Besides Cap-tain Cap-tain Taylor, who will hold down his place at forward, the line-up will prnb-ably prnb-ably find "Shorty'-' Anderson at con- rH tcr, Miller teaming with Taylor nnd jH Lund and Smith working together as 'H guards. Led" Marshall, who has taken- i'l Milne's place as coach, thinks that the lllH fact that his men all played together .lll for several years will give them an iil advantage hard to overcome. I'l Sensational Finish, ill I All of the teams remember the nl- most sensational work of the Logan Aggies who broke inlo the game la3t year for the first limo anrl then sur-prised sur-prised the talent by finishing in third place by n rcmarkablo brace toward iho end of the season. Captain Conk will again appear in the line-up, while the chances are that Brassard will bo the 011I3- other veteran. Word from the college, however, says that there will be a crack team in Iho field when the referee's whistle blows. While all the other teams are doping things to suit themselves, the TJ. of U. is keeping pretty quiet. Milne, how-ever, how-ever, isn't asleep and a surprise 11133' be HB in store for tho fans when the "U" HHl team plays its first game. Captain BVJ Horsfal was the star man for the U T). S. U. team last year. He is plav- BVJ ing in great shape now and Milne HH thinks that, shifted to forward, he w J' HBa show up to better advantage than eve; flBa Jack Cahoon, who learned tho gamr iBfll the 3-ear beforo last in the "U" gym- IflVJ nnsiiim, has developed a great eye for IBSJ basket throwing, and as he stands jflBn something more than six'feet two inches in his slocking feet, much is expected jflBV of him. Wilkinson is Iho mau slated 'iHBJ for conler. While he hasn"t played ,HB the game much, Wilkinson demonstrated IflVJ what ho coilld do a week ago when he IflVJ shut Y. M. C. A. Hoffman out without a single basket. Around school ho is jH known as tho human kangaroo, because jHH of his ability to jump nnd touch thu VflH ring of the basket with his hand. iH 'Eric" Erickson and Jerry Knowlton Vfl scorn to have it over the other candi-dates candi-dates for guard. Rrickson played with the Weber stake academy a year ago and ICnowlton just picked tho gamo'up bv himself, but both arc showing good form. Lt is possible that Morgan Adams fH will be seen on the basketball floor this year, and if he docs he will no doubt make a place on the team. flBS |
