Kvrlo MacCurdy in his groat play, "The Old Clothes Man," at tho Grand theater this week, the first performance being given Sunday night to a record houso. Every seat, box and available spaco being occupied by the best entertained en-tertained audience that has assembled in the Grand this season. "The Old Clothes Man'' is Mr. Mac-Curdy's Mac-Curdy's own production. If to act naturally na-turally be art, then Mr. MacCurdy is indeed an artist. In this, his own play, ho is in a class hy himself. The company com-pany is good as a whole, there being not a weak spoko in the entire wheel. Each and evory ono is clever in their respective parts. It is, perhaps, the best entertainment given at tho Grand sinco tho season began. Tho prize light in the fourth act he-tween he-tween TJan Dougherty, ex-champion of tho world, and Kid Sharkoy, is an exhibition ex-hibition of genuine fighting worth going go-ing miles to see by parties who are lovers lov-ers of tho "manly art." There is just enough plot in tho play to make it interesting. in-teresting. "Tho Old Clothos Man" engagement closes .Wednesday night with tho usual Wednesday matinee. LYRTC THEATER "Tho Littlo Minister," a dramatization of Barrio's quaint novel. "The Littlo Minister," a dramatization dramatiza-tion of J. M. Barrio', quaint novel of tho same name, is the bill at tho Lyric theater this week. Its initial presentation presen-tation Sunday night was, in its entirety, en-tirety, a creditable performance and was greeted by a packed house. As the plot is constructed on lines that are unique in many particulars and somo oxcollont comedy is interwoven through a lovo story that is essentially cheerful the play is'in itself original anad pleasing. pleas-ing. All of the important roles are ably handled. Miss Elhel Roborts as Babbie, tho leading fomalo character, seems peculiarly adapted to tho part and shows wonderful versatility in her characterization. The rolo of the Little Lit-tle Minister is well presentod by Joseph Jo-seph DeSlefani. The bill goes tho week with matinees Wednesday and Saturday. Keen enjoyment is assured those who witness GeoVgo Ado's comedy, "Tho Collego Widow," which comes to tho Salt Lako Theater next Tuesday and Wednesday. The exuboranco of youth, which is the dominant note of this famous fa-mous comedy, is irresistibly contagious. It is tho only entirely successful dramatization of a college subject that has been accomplished, and it is voted bv far tho best work of any kind that Mr. Ado has written. It has life and color, vim and brightness, and Ilonry W. Savage is sending it here, with a strong cast. " 4 First-nighters at the Orpheum may rest easy. Four of the acts on this week's bill arrived in town yesterday and tho others aro due in this morning, morn-ing, so there will bo no amateur stunts this evening. The now bill is duo to make good with the Three Leightons, Augusta Glose, Eugenio Barker, Max Millian and some comedy turns. |
