Show FAY0RS DEEP WATERWAY Congressman Sees Chance to all of Commerce of Panama. CHICAGO, Oct. 16. The control of the commerce of the Panama canal and of the whole Mississippi valley is the incentive for the creation of a deep i waterway which Congressman Joseph E. Ransaell of Louisiana proposed to Chicago business interests last night in an address at the Press club. Incidentally, the Congressman impressed im-pressed those present that the Niagara Falls commission, which meets here today, to-day, will take no action tending to interfere in-terfere with the waterway project. The speaker voiced a strong plea for an annual national appropriation of $50,000,000 for the improvement of rivers in place of the $19,000,000 now being expended. He said the proper development of the waterways of the countrv, ns planned, will cost. $500.-000,006, $500.-000,006, but that with the present appropriation ap-propriation it will take twentv-five years to accomplish the result. |
