Show TALKED ABOUT LYRICS Prof. Reynolds Delivers Seventh of n. Series of Talks. Prof. Fred W. Reynolds delivered the seventh of a series of Wednesday afternoon after-noon talks at the University yeHtcrday. His subject was the "Lyrics." By select readings tho speaker distinguished tho lyric poem from the folk song, the ballad, dramatic verse, the song and didactic verse. The speaker expressed regret that tho lyrics receive .-so little attention by roadors of today. Discussing tho lyric, the upeaker said: "This is a matter of fact age. The lyric Is not and docs not involve at all a sense of fact. Perhaps this Is ono reason why few lyrics aro now being written. The writer of a lyric must be n person of Intenso personal emotion, who feols deeply and sympathetically and admires things of beauty. I know nothing that can do more In refining our feelings or In giving us a taste for the beautiful than can tho reading of lyrics." "Folk Songs," Illustrated, Is the subject sub-ject of the next talk, which will bo given by Prof. Squire Coop on Wednesday afternoon next. |
