Show FEELING FAREWELL T9 PROF. CMIWu Cliurch Schools, It Is Assumed, Will Not Compote With University A pleasant social event In honor of Prof. Horaco Cuminlngs of the University Universi-ty of Utah was held at thohome of Prof. W. M. Stowurt of tho sumo Institution. Prof. CummlnB8 1ms been connected with tho training school and normal department de-partment of tho University for eleven ears and at the beginning of tho noxt echool yenr ho will assume tho duties of superintendent of the church schools of tho Mormon church. Presentation Is Made. During tho evening addresses were made tnat were complimentary to the work and character of Prof, cummlngs by both President J. T. Kingsbury and Prof. Stewart and the latter, on behalf of tho touchers of tho University, presented pre-sented Prof. Cummlngs with a book of literary gems, In which will bo placed boforo delivery tho autographs of all tho teachers of that Institution. To tho presentation. Prof. Cummlngs made an appropriate and feeling ro-sponsc. ro-sponsc. The threo speakers have known each other slnco boyhood and nave been life-long frlonds. Services Not Lost. In tho courso of hln remarks President Kingsbury stated that he felt that tho University was not losing the cervices of Prof. Cummlngs as, in his new capacity, ho would perform tho nurt of a feeder to the University This assertion was based on the assumption that the church schools would, according to reports, abandon the syotem of endeavoring to operate schools and college currlculums In competition with the courses as taught, In tho University. School Is Complimented. Prof. Cummlngs, during his connection with tho University, has vlBltcd most of tho leading normal schools of the country coun-try and has had chargo of tho Utah educational ed-ucational exhibits at the St Loula fair. In severing his connection with the University Uni-versity he expresses the belief that the normal department of that Institution Is one of the moBt efficient schools of tho kind In the entire country. |
