NW YORK, Juno 16. Entry blanks wero issued yesterday for tho Vandorbllt Cup race, which will take place on Saturday, October 6, over a courso to bo named later, of not leas than 250 or more than 300 miles. Thero will also bo a preliminary race for the selection of an American team over a ibO-milo courso, on Septembor 22. and the first five cars to finish are to bo selected to reprasent tho United States in the big race. Tho full conditions which are to govern tho third annual competition for the Vandorbllt Cup arc ns follows: Eligibility Competition for this cup shall bo open only to clubs that aro recognized recog-nized by of affiliated with the Amorlcan Automobile Association, and to clubs recognized rec-ognized by or affiliated with tho Automobile Auto-mobile Club of France, the Automobile Club of Gcrmanj', the Italian Automobllo Clubs and the A. C. G. B. I. Members of such clubs must apply to their clubs for nomination. American owners of foreign cars must bo members of, and mnko their entries through, tho recognized club of the country In which their cars are manufactured. Must Assume Liability. Qualification The attached entry blank must be properly filled out and signed, the ontrant agreeing to assumo all c.vpenso Incidental to his participation and nil liability lia-bility for criminal or civil suits for damages dam-ages caused by him. The entry must bo in tho hands of the Commission not later than July 1, 1906, and must be accompanied by the entry fee of $1000. The car entered must not weigh more than 2CW pounds, nor less than SSI pounds, and must have a scttlnj? capacity for two passengers, whoso weight must be at least 133 pounds each. How Rule Reads. Furthermore, tho car must como within tho meaning of Rule 19 of the A. A. A. lacing rules, which reads as follows: "An automobllo, motor enr, or car within the meaning of these rules Is a four-wheeled chlclo propelled by self-contained mechanical me-chanical means and provided with two brakes, each operated independently of the other, and a motor-driven reverse gear." The car in each and every one of its parts and equipment must bo , entirely constructed in the country of the club which it represents. Elimination Not more than five cars shall represent any one country. In tho event of there being'morc than five entries from a foreign country, the club representing repre-senting such country shall select the five cars to compcie. First Five to Represent. In tho event of there being more than five entries from tho United States, the Racing Board of tho American Automobllo Automo-bllo Association shall decide by a trial race of at least 250 miles, to be held on Sept. 22, 1906. which of the entries shall competo in the Cup race. This trial race shall be limited to tho twenty-five cars entered to represent tho United States, and tho first five cars to finish shall bo selected. Competition The date of tho race shall bo October 0, 190G. The course, which shall be announced at least thirty days before the race, will be over a regular highway or an automobile automo-bile speedway. The di3tanco shall not be less than 250! miles, nor more than 300 miles. The rules governing tho race shall be the Racing Rules of tho American Automobile Auto-mobile Association and any additional rules adopted by the Vandorbllt Cup Commission Com-mission for 1906. J |
