DEMAND FOR SUBURBAN BUILDING LOTS IS STRONG Merchants Generally Say They Are Satisfied With Conditions, ' Business for tho week Just closed has been good In all tho various linos of trade. In nearly all lines receipts showed a bettor buuslness than tho preceding week. Tho warm weather, which has now set In, has had a good effect upon business. In banking circles, business continued contin-ued in splendid condition. Thero was plenty of money to be had and ratos wero easy. Real estato loans brought 7 per cent, call loans G per cent and tho time loans 8 por cent. In real estate thero were no very large sales. Thero was a great demand for dwelling houses and lots sultablo for building homes. The principal activity ac-tivity during tho week was in suburban subur-ban lots. Tho real estato men havo been much occupied for the past .several .sev-eral days, talking over and making plans for their big excursions to Salt-air Salt-air on Juno 2S. Tho largest real estate deal of the week wan closed Saturday. Through tho agency of W. J. Halloran. J. E. Bamberger has sold to James E. Paine 25xlfi5 feet on the south sldo of Third South street, between Main and West Temple streets, for $20,000. The prlco paid Is $800 a front foot. This property Is adjoining tho Green-wald Green-wald Furniture company on tho west. The prlco paid by Mr. Paine for the property Is considered reasonable. Tho new union depot of tho Rio Grando and Western Pacific railroads, which will soon be started on Third South, has made property along tho street desirable desir-able to investors. Reports of Merchants. Tho dry goods merchants report a very successful week. The showing for last week Is ahead of tho corresponding corre-sponding week of last year. Receipts will run from 15 to 25 per cent better this year. Owing to tho lair and warm weather of tho past week the receipts re-ceipts went ahead of thoso of the preceding pre-ceding week. Women's waists and suits, silk shirt waist suits woro among tho very best sellers. Tho demand for long gloves still continues and It is absolutely ab-solutely impossible to supply this demand. de-mand. Shipments of long gloves aro exhausted upon arrival. All kinds of summer wash goods found an excellent market. Business in all departments was steady throughout the week. In tho wholesale produce business the week closed with receipts ahead of the corresponding week last year. In fact, last week was ono of tho very hest tho produco men havo experienced. exper-ienced. Thero was plenty of everything every-thing camo In and the retailers wore ready buyers. Washouts In Oregon have greatly affected af-fected tho local lumber market. Orders Or-ders which woro placed a long time ago havo not yet been filled by tho local wholesalers. Largo shipments have been sent out from tho mills in tho northwest for Salt Lake, but have failed to arrive. Tracers aro being sent dally with tho hopes of locating tho delayed cars, but up to Saturday no tidings had been received here of them. But as thero was quite a good supply of lumber on hand previous to tho washouts tho lumber yards have been able to fill somo of their orders. Wholesale Hardware. Salt Lake wholesale hardware dealers deal-ers aro making great and rapid Inroads on tho Eastern establishments In the trade of Nevada. Nevada people aro turning in a groat deal of their business busi-ness to the local firms, which aro filling fill-ing orders promptly. Tho receipts for tho month will show an increaso over tho same month of at least 75 per cenL Tho shoo business is experiencing a boom. Tho demand for shoes of nearly all varieties has been heavy and It has kept the merchants busy to meet this demand. Oxford ties are far In tho lead of all other kinds of shoes, and noxt to them canvas shoes aro most in demand. Tho dealers aro somewhat behind in receipts of these shoes from tho eastern manufacturers, but aro managing to meet tho demand fairly well. The week in local commercial stocks remained about tho samo as tho preceding pre-ceding week. Tho fact that the sugar crop promises to bo a plentiful ono wrought a stiffening throughout tho sugar list. Tho whlto fly pest which visited the sugar crop last year has not mado its appearance this year. This, together with tho Qno reports of the crop in goneral has caused tho changes in tho sugar lists.
