Show Commissioners Grant Franchise for Electric Line to J. . P. McCarron. PLANNED TO HANDLE JNTEPi URBAN TRAFFIC Fare Charged Must Not Exceed Ex-ceed Two Cents Per Mile. Special to Tho Tribune. OGDicN, Oct. 25. At a special meeting of tho Board of County Commloalonero held today a franchise was granted to J. F. McCarron allowing blm tbo privileges and conveying and dedicating tho samo to bis lielrs, administrators, successors and aligns, to construct nnd operate nn electric elec-tric railroad lino within tho limits of Weber county, outside tho limits of Og-den Og-den City.. Tho franchise grants the prlvllcgo lo build a elnglo or double track along tho roads and streets defined and to erect poles nnd wlroa necessary to operate said enrs; also granting the right to cros3 the Intersecting roads In said county. For Interurban Liue. In a general way, the grant Is for an Interurban lino In and through Weber county. After defining thu boundaries and limitations of the grant, the frnn1-cl.lso frnn1-cl.lso provides that tbo grantee shall use no power method other than electric current cur-rent or compressed liquid air, and tho use of any other power, such ns steam, shall render tho grant null and void. The right to engage in nn Interurban passenger passen-ger nnd express traffic Is granted to the Kranleo. Including the light to carry United States malls. The grantco Ib required to make certain repairs on all streets over which he may operate, and lo maintain water courses crossed by his tracks. Must Help Weber County. Tho grantee binds himself, his successors success-ors and assigns to haul, without charge, each year, over the entire length of tho grantee's railroad, the number of carloads of any kind of material for the repair, maintenance or Improvements of the public roads of Weber county, and If at the expiration of ten years the road shall huve- earned a cortaln net Interest on Its' Investment tho delivery of such carloads of material may be Increased to ono hundred hun-dred cars per annum. Two-Cent Fare. Another provision Is that tho fares to be charged by the grantco shall not exceed ex-ceed 2 cents per mile. The railway Is to be constructed over tho roads and streets defined between May 1, 1006. and May 1. 1S07. The franchise provides that all cars to be operated on the new railway shall bo provided with proper vestibules, fenders, guards and air brakes, and that the trnck shall be of tho standard four-feet, eight and one-half Inches gauge. The ordinance Is to take effect on Its approval, passago and publication as required re-quired by law, and Is granted for a term of fifty years. The franchise received tho unanimous vote of tho Commissioners. When oeen this evening, Mr. McCarron stated that the frnrchlfo Kranted today was to completo com-pleto tho Interurban line between Salt Lake City nnd Brlebam City. He has already secured se-cured a franchise through Davis county, and municipal franchises through Bountiful, Farm-lngton Farm-lngton and Kayovllle. The perfection of tho eystem, he Bays, will be duo to nn agreement between himself and tho officers of tho Ogden Rapid Transit company, by which ho will connect con-nect with tho lino of tho latter company, on Washington avenue, at tho city limits of Og-den, Og-den, and by this means will advance Into Box Elder county. |
