The great park fairly swarmed with them, they clustered about on tho green stretches of lawn, strolled along tlio shady walks or took a seat under a spreading vino on "lovers' lane." Others enloyed a bout vide on tho h.ke, while still others whirled about the broad drive In autos or carriages. Half an hour at the park yesterday would havo convinced any living being that public -parks havo a vital place In connection with big cities. Liberty park at present Is as beautiful as any resort In tho State, and- here rich nnd poor alike can enjoy themselves. Was Cosmopolitan Crowd. Tho crowd at tho park yesterday was thoroughly cosmopolitan. The very nature na-ture of the pnrk at present. Its stretches of green lawn. Its large, spreading trees, cllmbnng vines and blooming llower-beds lr.ako tho nlace Inviting to all people. And of such a character was the crowd yesterday thero was no rowdyism, no vulgarism. One very attractive feature was tho music furnished by Hold's band. All through tho afternoon and early evening the musicians played sweet notes that seemed to designate the day hallowed. From ono end of the park to tho other. Into every shady nook and crook tho sweet strains mado their way and carried Joy to the heart of the tolling laborer equally ns much as to his more fortunato neighbor. Most of tho crowd left for homo early In the evening and by 10 o'clock the great park was comparatively empty. |
