Show Around the Marsh sh aa-sh I BY TOM TOl ARGYLE The question is often asked by sportsmen Why doesn't the Davis County Wild Life do something for the sportsmen in Davis County We Ve admit they have a Q Bar-Q and dance each spring but of what value is that to the out door sportsman sportsman sportsman sports sports- man who wishes to have better fishing and hunting Those of us who still work in the Davis County Wild Life Federation and have been there a long time well remembers remembers remembers bers several projects which have been accomplished and have been a great help to those of you who have fished and hunted Perhaps th the th public has has' been unaware of the fact that some things they have enjoyed was brought about by the federa federa- tion One thing we woe will vill agree with and that is much more could have been done and much more can and is being done otherwise we are going to find ourselves without wild wildlife wildlife wildlife life recreation The purpose of this article is to give the sportsmen of Davis County as well as our neighboring some idea what is now being toeing done for them by the Davis County Wild Life Federation and at atthe atthe atthe the same t time e invite every one me oneto oneto meto to join with us in making the following projects possible Project No 1 Because I-Because Because the Utah Fish and Game Dept was unable to build its caretakers home at the south entrance of Farmington bay it became n necessary necessary c- c essary to close the south gate to car travel leaving no car parking space Your committee met with Bountiful City and has been given a parking lot providing We fence the same Davis County County County Coun Coun- ty commissioners haVe promised promised prom prom- promised to gravel this area before hunting season Project No For 2 For 2 For 25 years your fe federation de ra tion has owned and paid taxes on 15 acres of land west of the Parrish lane and adjacent to the Farmington I Bay The right of t to this property leads from the old sheep and cattle road which for the past several years has not been passable and for that reason this property has never been developed into a parking lot Your committee met with the Davis County commission and they have agreed to rebuild rebuild rebuild re re- re- re build and gravel the old road providing the federation furnishes furnishes furnishes furn furn- the necessary culverts Project No Our 3 Our 3 Our influence with the Davis County commission commission commission commis commis- sion has added to their program program program pro pro- gram the graveling and oiling of Glovers lane to the new entrance of Farmington Bay Project 4 For 4 For a long time the federation has been trying to purchase a right of way west of Layton near the west westend westend westend end of Gentile street going south to the lake front where some of the best shooting c can n be had Your committee can report that this easement has been obtained for a three rod road The county has promised to build and nd gravel the same inthe in inthe inthe the very near future providing providing providing provid provid- ing the federation installs two culverts and two cattle guards Project No The 5 The 5 The Davis County Wild L Life e Federation sponsored a resolution at the state stat convention nv which rater later became law giving the Fish and Game Dept the right to exchange property with the New State Gun club which has been done and nd which gives the Fish and Game Dept con con- rol of all property outside the clubs s. s Your Your committee has met with the Utah Fish and Game Dept and commission and have added to its 1957 program the engineering of a large dyke that would hold the salt water back This would allow the development of a vast area west and south of Farmington Bay for duck hunting Join us and help us to get these and other projects built 1 |
