Show RESULTS OF AMERICAN SYSTEM OF ENTERPRISE Some of the results of the American system of enterprise as tabulated in the New York Sun's business edition show that through cooperation of capital and labor the ordinary person in America is in many respects better fed, clothed and even housed than were princes in earlier times. In 1941 in this country there were: Savings In 1910 there were 16,372,000 accounts; in 1941 there are 40,000,000 accounts. Ownership in industry In 1900 there were 4,400,000 owners of securities; in 1941 there are 16,000,000 owners of securities. Investment in life insurance 7,725,000 policy holders in 1900; more than 64,000,000 in 1940. Electric appliances in homes In 1920 there were 1,800,-000; 1,800,-000; in 1941 there are 117,000,000. Automobiles in use (exclusive of 4,210,000 trucks and buses) In 1900 there were 8,000; in 1941 there are 25,000,000. Owners of homes In 1920 there were 10,581,712; in 1941 there are 14,000,000. Electric refrigerators In 1920 there were 10,000; in 1941 there are 14,240,000. Radios In 1920 radio sets numbered 1,000; in 1941 radio sets number 43,000,000. . Telephones In 1900 telephones numbered 1,000,000; in 1941 telephones number 20,400,000. |
