Show MONEY TO BE SPENT ON SALIDA BRANCH It Is- reliably reported that the Denver Den-ver & Rio Grande Railroad company is preparing to expend several thousand thou-sand dollars on the narrow gauge division di-vision extending from Sallna to Grand Junction. W. H. Coughlin, general superintendent superinten-dent of the Denver &. Rio Grande-, with sevoral other olllclals of the road, spent the greater part of last week Inspecting that part of the system. f In order to handle tho Immense increase in-crease In trafilc from the San Juan and San Luis valleys SO new narrow gauge freight cars have been placed In commission com-mission on the division within the past three months. This phenomenal Increase In-crease In trafilc is said to bo due to the rapid development of the rich agricultural agricul-tural and mining sections of southern Colorado. With tho approach of the date for the Moffat road to enter Denver, about June 1, comes the report from an authoritative source that the line -will have its own. terminals in that city. It Is persistently rumored that a deal Is on which all but makey It a surety that ground for a depot and terminal "yarda will be bought, and that the union depot will not be used by that road. An official of the road has !?tated that rails will bo laid Into Denver by June 1, and that the property, which It is claimed the company is negotiating for will come Into Its possession n early as May 15. From competent authority It has been given out that the company com-pany is making an effort to secure tho site of the old city water plant, on lower Fifteenth street, near Platte river. Traffic t(j Boulder park, forty-eight forty-eight miles from Denver, will be opened about June 1. |
