Show IN BLISSFUL IGMOBANGE Managers of Iroquois Before Inquisitors. Chicago, Jan. 22. William J. Davis and Harry J. Towers, managers of the Iroauols theater, made their appearance before the Coroner's jury today. Neither of. the gentlemen seemed dlsposd to accept ac-cept any responsibility in connection with the defective construction of the theater, faults of management or neglect neg-lect to provide proper fire protection. Mr. Powers placed the responsibility for the. management upon Mr. Davis, who, he said, was the active manager, while he was but passive in the conduct of lis affairs. The blame for the fire and the consequent loss of life he put upon employees, who, he said, did not perform .their full duty. When It came tho turn for Mr. Davis to testify he refused the place the blame upon any particular person, but said he had confidence that the employees of tho theater would attend to their business busi-ness propertly and he also believed that the Fuller Construction company would erect th,e building In compliance with the city ordinances. Personally, he said, ho knew nothing whatever of what the laws demanded In tho construction of a theater, altliough he had been managing theaters in Chicago Chi-cago for twenty years. lie had a gen-oral gen-oral knowledge of what was necessary, but he had never read tho city laws covering cov-ering the construction and operation of theaters. |
