New York There is always something some-thing painfully incongruous In the sale of summer wash goods that take place at this time of year, and yet there arc many astute shoppers who are quick to take advantage of the exhibition. Percales, dimities, summer silks and Uncus can all now be chosen for the summer's wardrobe, and It Is contended con-tended the very choicest of colors and fabrics can now be found which later on will be all sold out. There is a sense of being ahead of the times in ordering now materials intended for hot weather wear, and yet, now that it is fashionable fashion-able to go South In the winter. It is quite necessary to be well provided with thin clothes, now than late In the spring when the weather begins to grow warm and there is not so much ozone In the atmosphere. So many different varieties of white material are to be sepn as to make It quite certain white will be fashionable again this summer.. The white linen and pique gowno of last year will be copied this season, and white corduroy that was so popular last summer Is already al-ready in great demand now. Long coats are, so It is said, not to be so fashionable as short jackets and yet tho leading tailors are making up long coats In pique linen and corduroy on exactly the same lines as last year. Of course, there are no end of smart little Jackets as well, but the long coats were very useful, so becoming ancLso smart it would be quite Impossible to eliminate them from the complete outfit. Heavy white silk costumes will be very smart, and these are made either after the long coat model or in some fancy design of short e-ton bolero or pleated Jacket. The latter must be carefully made so that the pleats will not got out of place when the coat Is laundered or cleaned for the rule is that a white frock shall always be immediately imme-diately fresh, necessitating constant trips to the laundry or cleaner's. |
