Show AN ORDINANCE. An ordinance amending and rc-onactlng certain resolutions granting franchises to tho predecessors of. tho Utah Light & Power company. , Whereas. The Cltv Council of Salt Lako City, on May 20th, 1S03, by Section ono of an ordinance granted tp tho Salt Lako nnd Ogden Gas and T.lcctrlc Light company, com-pany, Its successors and assigns, for a period of twenty-live years from the date of said ordinance, a right and privilege to 1130 nnd ocotipy tho streets, alloys, lanes and public places of Salt Lako City, for tho purposo of conducting gns anu electric current by means of sultauio pipes, wires or condulto, or by use of wires or conductors placed abovo sola streets, or both; That afterwards, to wit. on the tn day of July. 1603. tho City Council of Salt Lako City, by Section ono of a resolution, reso-lution, granted to Robert M. Jones, his heirs nnd nsslgns, for a period of twenty-fivo twenty-fivo yoara from said date, a right to occupy oc-cupy tho streets, nlleys, lanes and public places of Salt Lako City, for tho purposo of conveying electrical energy and electrical elec-trical current by means of poles and wires abovo tho surfneo of tho ground, and by menna of plpca or conduits laid under the ground: That afterwards, to wit, cn the 10th day of December, 1S93, tho City Council of Salt Lako City, by Section l of an pr-dlnanco, pr-dlnanco, granted to S F. Walker, his hclra and assigns, for tho period of twen-ty-llvo years from said dato, the privilege of occupying and using tho streets, alleys, al-leys, lnnea and public places of Salt Lako Cltv for tho right and prlvllego of conveying con-veying gns nnd electrical current by means of suitable pipes nnd conduits to be laid bolow tho surface of the ground, or by means of wires and conductors placed abovo 3ald streets, to bo used for electric lighting and furnishing power; nnd also pipes laid below tho surface of the ground for conveying steam for heating heat-ing and furnishing power, and other purposes, pur-poses, to tho Inhabitants and proporty owners and users in said city; That afterwards, to wit, on tho lfith day of May. 1S07, tho City Council of Salt Lake City, by Section one of an ordinance, granted to the Pioneer Electric company, for a period of twenty-fivo years from tho dato of said ordinance, a right to erect and maintain a slnglo lino of poles In tho streets, nlleys and lanes of Salt Lako City, with necessary wires and proper appliances thereto attached, and also to lay pipes and conduits therein for the distribution and conveyance of electricity and gas for said city, to be used by the Inhabitants thereof, for light, heat, power and other Industrial and commercial com-mercial purposes; and Whereas, Tho Utah Light and Power company, by ji scries of mesno conveyances, convey-ances, has becoino tho owner and now Is tho owner of nil tho franchises abovo set forth, and Is now engaged In building build-ing a largo power station on tho Jordan river and otherwlso Improving Its power stations In Snlt Lnko Cily, nnd for thnt purposo has Issued a series of bonds, duo in thirty years from January 1, 1900; and hns requested thnt each franchlso bo extended ex-tended for an additional period of twonty-five twonty-five years, namely, fifty years' tlmo from the time of tho granting of said original franchises respectively. Now, therefore, be It ordained by tho Mayor and City Council of Salt Lako City, Utah. Section 1. That each of said resolutions and ordinances granting said franchises be, nnd the same Is. hereby amended by striking out from Section 1 of each of said resolutions and ordinances tho words "twenty-five years" and substituting therefor tho words "fifty years." Provided: That after May 19th, 191S, six additional arc lights bo furnished free of charge to tho city, during the llfo of this franchise. That after July 21th. 191S. six additional arc lights be furnished frco of chargo to the city, during the liro of this franchise. fran-chise. That after December ISth. 1913, six additional ad-ditional arc lights bo furnished free of chargo to the city, during tho llfo of this frnnolilse. That after May 17th. 1922. seven additional addition-al arc lights bo furnished freo of charge to the city, during tho llfo of this franchise. fran-chise. Sec. 2. That the said Utah Light Sc. Power company. Its successors and assigns, as-signs, shall place all their transmission wires within the following bounded district dis-trict of Salt Lake City, under ground, within nine years from January 1, 1903, to wit. 1. On West Temple street from lis intersection in-tersection of South Templo street south to Fourth South street. 2. On East Templo street from Its intersection in-tersection of South Templo street south to Fourth South street. 3. On Stato street from Its Intersection of South Templo street south to Fourth South street I. South Templo street from Its Intersection Inter-section of West TemDle street east to State street. C. First South street from Its Intersection Intersec-tion of West Temple street cast to State street. C. Second South street from Its Intersection Inter-section of Wost Templo stroet cast to State street 7. Third South street from Its Intersection Intersec-tion of West Temple street east to State atreet. S. Commercial street and Richards street. Sec 3. Said Utah Light and Power company shall commence snld work In 1105. and shall build and construct the necessary conduits and ways for such underground transmission wires not leas than a distance of one block each year; that is to say. the distance around ono full block each and every year after January Jan-uary 1, 1905. and the wholo of said district dis-trict shall be completed within nlno voars from January 1, 1905, and the snld 'Utah Light nnd Power compnny shnll, by and with tho approval of tho engineer of Salt Lako City, locate tho pluco and places In the streets of tho said district In which said wires will be laid, on or before January Jan-uary 1. 19C0, and tho right to excavato and build the said underground conduits and ways for the transmission wires In said locality Is hereby granted and confirmed Sec. A. This franchise, with all grants and privileges to be binding only upon written acceptance filed with tho City Recorder within sixty days after its approval. Sec. G. This ordinance shall tako effect ef-fect upon its approval. Passed by the City Council of Salt Lake City. Utah. December 11th, 1903, and referred re-ferred to tho Mayor for his approval J. O.
