Show I CHRISTIAN WORK ' BY YOUNG PEOPLE Auspicious' Opening Last Evening of Annual State Convention, With; I Many Cities Represented, i J More than a dozen towns and cities of the State were represented at the first session of the annual union condition con-dition of young people's Christian societies so-cieties held last night in the First Presbyterian church in this city. Tho societies uniting In these conventions aro the Utah Epworth League, the lTtah Christian Endeavor Union and the Baptist Young People's Union, and delegates dele-gates are already in attendance upon up-on this convention from Richfield, Mt. Pleasant. Sprlngville, Provo, American i i Fork, Logan, Ogden, Kaysville, Blng-i Blng-i ham, Sandy, Park" City, Eureka and Salt Lake. Three more sessions will be held today In- the First Methodist church, and on Sunday evening there will be a union prayer- meeting in the First Baptist church. Last night's rcrvicci', which brought out a splendid audience- for a mid-week meeting, were opened by a song service led by the Rev. T IT. Gilbert, which f:i5 followed by scripture reading. The address of welcome woo delivered by B. L. Corum, and the responses, In the absence of Miss Clara Boreman of Ogden, who had been taken suddenly ill, was read by Miss Maud Lucas. A vocal solo, "The Lord Is My Light," was beautifully rendered by Miss Agatha Borkhocl, and the address of the evening, on the subject, "Tho Gospel of Christ and tho Young People's Society," So-ciety," was delivered by the Rev. E. L Goshen, pastor of the. First Congregational Congrega-tional church of this city. II There will bo business meetings of tho several societies at 0 a. m. today, I followed by a union session, which will II bo addressed by the presidents. From I) 10.30 to 11 o'clock there will be fittv I half-minute talks on "Practical Hints as to Leading Meetings and Per- n6nai Work," led by the Rpv. p a Simpkln. Tfcis will be followed by two- Jj .tumrta reports from the field. At the j afternoon session Miss Lou Parker and j William Law.9on will deliver addresses In on practical topics, and there will bo an 11 open parliament led by Dr. W. M. Pndeu. Features of tonight's session II will be an addresa by Dr. Benjamin II Young on "Utah's Greatest Need: 1 How Shall It Be met?" and a talk by I Dr. T. W. Pinkerton on "Tho Aggres- I elvo Young People's Society." |
