i Slashed Throat With a Knife Well Known New Jersey Man Prefers Pre-fers to End Existenoe Rather Than Face Crime, N' BW YORK, May 17. Rather than face the disgrace of a public trial, John D. Budd. a ' well-known resident of Ho-boken, Ho-boken, N. J., has slashed his throat with a pocketknlfo and will die. He was arrested a few days ago, together wijh a lawyer and four other residents of Hoboken, charged with having abused young children. Fifteen churges have been made thus far against him, The expose caused a great sensation. Budd, who is a bookkeeper, 46 years old, had been released on $500 bail after a night In Jail. He wCnt at once to his bachelor apartment and barred the door to all callers. After brooding several hours, he slashed his throat repeatedly and had bled almost to death when found and taken to the hospital.
