Show EXPORTS OF MANUFACTURES oJ The Indications from the reports that have come to the Treasury department are that the exports of manufactures for the calendar year Just closing will show a total of about llGOOp000 > a Mg uro which exceeds that of any previous year save only the phenomenal year of 1000 when the total was about 18000 000 greater Manufactures now comprise com-prise about onethird of the countrys exports the figures for the ten months shown for 1002 being J2C1 per cent while the percentage for the record breaking year was but 31Go of the total exports During time first half of the Nineteenth century wo sent out but small ratios of manufactures compared with the total of our foreign sales Thus the percentages rose from 78 In the first year of the century to 118 In the twentyfifth and they stood at 13 to 127 per cent till 1860 Within the last decade of the past century however how-ever they began to mount upward 193 per cent in 1S91 and thence gradually upward to the present time as slated above In 1800 the total values of ox ported manufactures was but S UGOO000 and they never reached 10000000 prior to 1810 but In 1SCO they began to rise until now they average over 100000000 yearly The Treasury sheet from which we compile tho above has this cheerful comment on tho achievement of American Ameri-can manufacturers One feature of the exportation of manufactures which Is especially Interesting and Important is tho large proportion of manufactures which find u market In the chief manufacturing man-ufacturing countries of the world A statement prepared by the I bureau of statistics shows that more than one half of the manufactures exported from the United States now go to Europe the great manufacturing section of the world and that about onefourth of the to till exports of manufactures go to North America the other fourth being about equally distributed between South America Asia Oceanlca and Africa Af-rica Five great articles form the bulk of time exportation of manufactures from the United Status to Europe copper mineral oil Iron and steel manufactures man-ufactures leather and agricultural Im plemenlo Tho annual exportation of copper mineral oil and h id Steel 1 manufactures each cxceci 000000 while that of leather cxcou J000000 and agricultural Implements over 10 000000 Utah will do her full share In supplying the copper and when her oil I wells got fully Into operations reward ing the laborn and the hopes of those who have put their money into prospecting pros-pecting and development we shall hope to add a good deal more than our hare to the surplus oil product of the country coun-try |
