Show All MUST r UNITE TO SECURE COVEMENT AID Utah Lake Proposition Up for Discussion CITY MAY CAUSE TROUBLE Cannot Cooperate with Private Pri-vate Corporations I Thought However That Some Plan Will Bo Devised to Remove Possibility of Litigation The first definite ntep In the direction of getting the canal companies of Salt Lake together on the irrigation proposition propo-sition was taken at the meeting held yesterday afternoon by the canal presidents pres-idents l the general Irrigation committee commit-tee of the Commercial club and a number num-ber of other men whose opinions on this Bubbect are valuable The meeting was held In the afternoon In the Commercial Commer-cial club rooms and lasted for several hours MEN AT MEETING Those present as rcpresentatlng the canal companies were President Angus M Cannon J W Fitzgerald Samuel M T Sheddon W H Halgh and George C Lambert Jr Engineer L C Kelsey wan present as the representative of the city Of the general Irrigation committee commit-tee there were present George C Lambert Lam-bert Sr George A Lowe Rulon S I Wells F A Druehl Col E F Holmes L L Terry and C S KInney In addition ad-dition to these there was present Skate Engineer A F Doremus F S Richards Rich-ards attorney for the canal companies City Attorney Georce L Nye and Fisher S Harris PLAN FOR UNION The subject of securing Federal aid In converting Utah lake into a great reservoir was the one under discussion discus-sion It was made clear that the canal companies must get together on some sort of a proposition and remove all I chance of litigation before the general Government would take hold of the proposition It was agreed that the first thing to be accomplished was the union of the four canal companies To accomplish this It was agreed that the four canal presidents would formulate a set of resolutions providing for the electipn of a committee from each of the four companies to work out a plan for the union This plan Is then to bo nubmitted to the boards of directors oi the four companies and If they agree It will be submitted to the stockholders of the four companies TO MEET MONDAY The committees from the canal companies com-panies will meet at 3 oclock next Monday Mon-day oflernoon at tho office of President Angus M Cannon and It Is tho hope and expectation of all Interested In the great Utah lake enterprise that a satisfactory satis-factory plan will be ready by that time for submission to the stockholders o r the four canal companies Col E P Holmes State Enlneer A F Dore mus and Attorney F S Richards will attend this meeting In an advisory ca pad ty pacltyONE ONE POSSIBLE TROUBLE There arc legal difficulties to be surmounted sur-mounted In getting the companies to work together for the carrying out or some definIte plan of union Salt Lake is I entitled to a onefifth Interest In the waters of the lake In common with the canal companies But the city being a public corporation Is not permItted under the law to cooperate with the canal companies which are private corporations It is thought however that If the four canal companies cnn he induced to work In harmony mean will be secured for caring for the city Interest III the matter It In encouragIng encourag-Ing to all concerned that such a feelIng feel-Ing of cooperation exists and that all Interests seem to be pulling for tho common roof roo-f o zs a7A i t |
