Show RISE IN RED METAL The Consumption Has Overtaken the Production The Engineering and Mining Journal has the following lo say of the recent rise In copper To slate briefly the conditions at the present time The consumption in thLs country is on the largest scale ever known Businessin Europe is proving and electrical and other enterprises arc being rushed with a resulting demand for copper Production has overtaken consumption con-sumption and the consequences are apparent ap-parent The movement has of course been emphasized as such movements always al-ways are by the fact that everyone wishes to buy on a rising market and the rush of purchasers J produces a more rapid advance While the actual figures for the present year cannot bo obtained owing to the unfortunate disruption of the Copper Producers association there Is no doubt that tho output for tho first quarter of the year has not shown any large Increase over the corresponding period of IDOL Later In the year this condition may be changed 1 somewhat Exports In January and February wore somewhat less than a year ago but In March a considerable gain 11B been shown and these exports would have been considerably larger hud producers produ-cers been able to meet the duiiands from abroad It Is safe to say that at the present pres-ent time there t Is little or no metal to behind be-hind for Immediate delivery or in fact for at least two months to come and largo orders for May and June cannot easily be placed The demand from consumers continues con-tinues liowcvcr and It looks as though it would he a little difficult to satisfy their requirements unless the rising prlco should operate to limit consumption and of this there teens to be no present indication indi-cation Referring to the same subject the London Citizen has the following to say sayA A further sensational advance has been onglnevrod in copper the price of G M Bs having risen to LG5 being another 47i higher on the week after touching 1i6I This improvement is attributed to hear covering and advices from the States point to the movement as being largely an artificial one That however remains to bo h seen nnd In the meantime copporml ning shares have followed the connie of the metal Rio Tlnto rising to u7 > reacting react-ing to 1i2 ta Anaconda to I filtf Cape Copper Cop-per 1 Coplupo Mountain Copper and Utah have gained small fractions but Mount Lyell have stuck at 3 910 and Etruscans and Namaqua are rather dull |
