Show GENERAL BOOTHS TRIBUTE General Booth of the Salvation Army Is very complimentary to Americans for their courtesy and attentions to him during his recent tour in tills country and is not backward In expressing his appreciation of the treatment he received re-ceived It Is but the plain truth to say however that the complete toleration for all religions in this country has made the American people respectful to ill forms of piety and of sectarianism In lands and times where and when persecution was lawful the religion that la i in the minority called forth neither toleration nor respect its adherents ad-herents were under the ban of the law and of public opinion But when everyone every-one has the right to think and do as he wills with respect to religious worship and is protected therein by the law Its It-s a dirferonti matter the hatred must be kept In leash and the knowledge I that the man though be miiy be but one In a community Is as fully protected protect-ed In his rights as any member of tho community has an uplifting effect upon the treatment he receives Besides all that the Salvation Army has won for Itself a place In the hearts of the American People which would never suffer them to treat Hs chief with anything any-thing else than the profoundest respect re-spect Thafklndly though noisy army has done deeds of selfsacrificing philanthropy phil-anthropy Its charities its devotion to duty and to the service of humanity are so well proved < and so thoroughly recognized that It has but to appear to have Its claims to respect and consideration consid-eration fully recognized The Salvation Army has thoroughly Interwoven itself Into the better life of our people us one of the most helpful and admirable of the altruistic organizations of thin country 1 coun-try All recognize this fact It Jg con ceded everywhere and nowhere more thoroughly than In this city where General Booth was warmly received |
