Show GENERAL INTEREST IN TWIN FALLS IRRIGATION DEAL Number of Acres of Land Involved in Scheme TAKEN UNDER GARY ACT Situation in Idaho as to Arid Lands Is Unique State Hns Millions of Acres ns Also Untold Quantities of Water With Which to Irrigate It ITKIBUNE SPECIAL Washington March lOBelnS familiar fa-miliar with the general Interest taken in Salt Lake and throughout Idaho In what is known as the Twin Falls irrigation irri-gation project The Tribune correspondent correspond-ent inquired at the General Land office concerning the status of the land Involved In-volved in the plans Not to go Into the details of the transactions of the company com-pany with the Land office at this time It may still bo of Interest to many to be reminded that the Twin Falls Land and Water company withdrew exactly 24402598 acres of the land along the Snake river In the vicinity of Twin Falls under the terms of what is known as the Gary act though there were several sev-eral laws passed relating to the selection selec-tion of desert lands by certain States I under which this company Is operating the last act having been approved I March 3 1001 The contract for the withdrawal was approved by the Secretary of the Interior In-terior July 1 1301 nnd It appears that under the operation of the law the company com-pany Is allowed ten years In which to obtain and furnish an ample supply of water to irrigate the land When that Is done patents will be issued forthwith forth-with Much interest Is taken In the Land office In any and all schemes for the reclamation of arid land and Idaho especially Is looked upon as a fruitful field oL operation The situation Is unique theie in that the State possesses strange as it may seem to those unacquainted unac-quainted with the country not only millions of acres of waste lands but It has untold quantities of water Immediately at hand with which to reclaim re-claim them The whole question resolves itslef merely > Into how to get the water wa-ter up out of the river beds which In the case of the Snake particularly lie rather low on to the lands |
