Show GEN W H JACKSON GONE Noted Confederate Cavalry Leader Dies at His Home Belle Meado Farm Tennessee Nashville lenn March IOGen William II Jackson a noted Confederate Con-federate leader and the proprietor of the Belle Meade farm died at his home Belle Meade near here this afternoon He was 6S years old and had been in falling health for more than a year and dangerously 111 for several weeks past He was graduated from West Point In ISiiC and went to New Mexico where he participated In a number of Indian fights with JCit Carson and oilier scouts He resigned his commission however at the opening of the Civil war to enlist In the Confederate service ser-vice Since the war he has devoted himself to agriculture and breeding of thoroughbred running horses some of the most noted performers of the American turf having been reared l at Belle Meade Two children William H Jnckon Jr and Mrs Sellne Ellison Elli-son survive him Gen Jackson was a brother of the late Howell E Jackson Associate Justice Jus-tice of the Supreme Court of the United States |
