Show HOPE FOR TRAVEL PAY Utah Philippine Veterans Greatly Encoxtraged Congressmen Favor Fav-or the Plan The Utah Society of the Army of I the Philippines met yesterday at the city and county building to hear reports re-ports of committees and take such further action as the occasion demands not mands The attendance was large the boys seeming to eel that the officers and committees are able to carry on tho work The work now In hand relates entirely to the securing secur-ing of travel pay from the Government from Manila home for each of tho Utah boys A3 near aq can now be estimated es-timated this will amount to 300 each Tho meeting yesterday was presided over by J O Nystrom the most important Im-portant action was the appointment o a committee to lay the matter before be-fore Senator Kearns when he returns to Salt Lake the latter part of the month Thin committee Is composed of Lieut G W GIbbs Louis E Kahn Bismarck Snyder and J 0 Nystrom Thin committee will prepare a report to be laid before Senator Kearns and others directly Interested In nddltlon to this two members of the committee will go to Washington In May or June 3 assist in pushing tho bill through Congress The Intention Inten-tion ID to close the matter up during this session The bill to provide travel trav-el pay for the boys has already been Introduced Into the Senate by Senator Kearns and Into the House of Representatives Repre-sentatives by Congressman J C Bell of Colorado Letters were read today from Representatives Rep-resentatives Stark Kahn Fordncy Hull Vamph Long Gardner May nary Alpin Sutherland McClellan Beldler Cooper Dick Smith Lace Cromcr Forrester Hepburn and Edwards Ed-wards and from Senators Mitchell Perkins Wellington Jones Foster Dledrlcn McMillan Burnham Gamble Gam-ble Warren Kearns Rawllns Hanno Heilfield and from J W Richards private secretary Speaker lender son Tho tone of these letters almost without exception was favorable A letter was sent to each Senator and each Representative also to many other prominent men in Washington hlngon Responses are expected from all of them Judging from the tone of the letters already received there will be but little opposition to the passage of the bill through Congress The matter has been taken up with the other organisations of a similar character as well as with the Senators and Representative Idaho has Joined hands with Utah and the boys of that State have been sending money to the Utah organization to help on with tho fight I Is hoped to form a close alliance ance between Utah Idaho Montana Nevada and Oregon These States except Idaho aro still to bo heard sUl from Information comes from Iowa that the State Government has advanced the money and each of the boys of that State has received his travel pay In full Iowa expects to be reimbursed by the general Government Nothing of that kind Is looked for here In Utah but all efforts are to be directed toward getting travel pay direct from Uncle Sam The organization will orlllzaton meet again next Sunday afternoon in the City Council chamber |
