Show TO ORGANIZE THE POSTMASTERS A circular has been issued from the Utah County Postmasters association and sent to the various postmasters throughout the State asking their opinion upon the desirability of forming form-ing a State Postmasters association The Utah County postmasters 1 at their meeting in Pleasant Grove October such 1Lnd adopted a resolution favoring organization We understand that the replies have quite generally favored the idea and that a call will soon he Issued for IL preliminary meeting oC the postmasters post-masters of the Stale to put the movement move-ment In operation It Is1n excellent Idea There are many things that the jxjslmasters can do In their organized capacity which will be of benefit to the service and the public And then the personal acquaintances ac-quaintances so formed will be of value In imparting is well as of much Importance parting Information The Instructions and general literature which a postmaster postmas-ter Is required to read are formidable in quantity and unless a postmaster gets a salary 1 worth while lie cannot afford to study them very carefully for the most part they dont affect very much the work of the minor poslofllces and yet when a question comes up it Is important im-portant lo settle it right This can easily easi-ly 1 be done in such general meeting of postmasters as is proposed l some of those in attendance I is sure to know and the Inquirer can get in a minute or two the practical answer to the question he might not be able to dig out with hours of reading the ofllclal sheets Again the rural free delivery Is a great and growing convenience to the farming communities There is a feeling feel-ing that the West Is not being treated with nn even hand in this compared with the Eastern communities A State Postmasters association could ascertain the facts as to this and make such united representations as would correct any Inequality that might be found to exist This new branch of the postal service Is in its formative stage It is one of the very greatest blessings of the postal service and must be eventually enormously extended A live energetic Stale Postmasters association would do much to extend the blessings of this service to the greatest number of people peo-ple Then there is the post check reform the improved method of sending money I through the malls An endorsement oC I it by a State Postmasters association would materially help in getting that modern system Instead oC the cumbrous old money order which is about as unavailable un-available now as would be the old postage post-age stamp system with its zones of distance dis-tance and increased rate according to mileage Vc have no doubt that the postmasters would approve this news new-s stcm as it is at once a marked improvement im-provement for the public and a lightening lighten-ing of oflicial labor In every way the organization oC such an association would be of the h highest service both in the public and in the individual capacity and The Tribune heartily commends it with the hope that the same may be effected and be a i power for good in the Stale I |
