Show NO OCCASION FOR JEALOUSY It Is I a moat cheerful prospect that opens for the schools of this city the present we ek in contrast with the dark outlook of the week before The reliance of the people IR flrat of all upon them selvcR In the raising ot money In the several school divisions of the city 10 keep J the schools going the full time necessary 10 complete the years work Their efforts In this line have been most offoctual nnd In every way commendable commend-able and that they will bo l continued with the utmost seal Ir ovldont from the spirit manifested It Is 1 also n necessity neces-sity of the situation The action of the Commercial Clubs commi lees on ways and means and on education has olrio nnc nl educaton strengthened tho hands of the principals princi-pals and teachers very materially as I the money to bo rAised through their efforts will be useful In helping out whore the loraL cfforla may be not quite sulllclent In the meantime It should not be forgotten hat contributions to tho g nell fund are solicited and maybe may-be sent to Mr Harris secretary There should be In thin manner and by moans of tho proposed concert n very sub Rinntlal addition to the available funds I Is to be regretted that there was a disposition In the meeting of the Board of Education on Friday evening to show fight against this movement on the part of the Commercial Clubs committees com-mittees I was tho Boards first right to take charge and reap all the credit If I they have reaped something else no other persons or committees are to blame The committees met In a spirit of pure good will to the schools I was their desire to help in extending the In slrucllon for the schools and all the clashes for the full school year They did l not act until the Board had thrown off the responsibility for the continuance continu-ance of the schools after May 1st I Is I therefore ungradlous to show any aplle 01 Jealousy i for first of nil there Is nod I no-d slrc on the part of any one connected with th6 Commercial Club to reap any glory out of this Ituatlonr and second whatever glory there may be to reap should go to the body of the people who have rallied so splendidly to the support of the schools This Is the position po-sition we have held from the first When there vas a disposition to criti cise the parents for not responding more promptly and with more money promise 6n Iho first or tuition plan we said that under l the circumstances the response wan moot praiseworthy > and generous We believed 1 then and we believe how that It the people had been given more time to realize the condition and the Impending CrIsis they would have fully met the requirements require-ments As a matter of fact they hod to have more time they took It nnd are noW on the high road of success The Commercial Clubs committees will continue their efforts to supplement the action of tho people anti we have no doubt that t t he end will be a triumph umph Publicspirited people whoso ability to help Is not exhausted by the local needs or who have no special local affiliations are requested to send their contributions to the Hon Fisher Harris Har-ris atthe club I |
