Show OBJECT ID CUT Utahn After Insurance Companies Com-panies Who Divide FIRE UNDERWRITERS MEET Fiftli Annual Convention National Association of Local Pire Insurance Insur-ance Agents Convenes in Milwaukee Mil-waukee Salt Laker Introduces Resolution Re-solution Which is Greeted With Applause Annual Address of President Woodworth Delivered Secretary Wants New Constitution Milwaukee Win Aug 20The fifth annual convention of the National Association As-sociation of Local Fire Insurance Agents convened here today In ito absence of Mayor Rose Corporation CounselGeneral JH Doe delivered the address of welcome Thomas G Geer of Cleveland responded A committee on nominations was then appointed to consist of one man from each State A committee on resolutions was similarly arranged E TY Wilson of Utah Introduced a resolution that The National association associa-tion request of the presidents of each State a complete list of all fire companies com-panies offering or writing business at cut rakes the list to bo furnished on the first days of October January April and July of each year and that the same he published anti sent to all members The resolution was greeted with applause ap-plause and referred to the committee I on resolutions without debate President Wfoodworth then delivered his annual address Legislatlpn ho wild that Increases expenses by excessive exces-sive taxation and by preventing cooperation co-operation necessarily Increases the rate of Insurance He contended that equitable rating which can only be arrived ar-rived at by classification and cooperation S coopera-tion Is of more Importance to the policyholder than to the company Among his recommendations were the following A conference with tho Association of Insurance Commissioners Commission-ers offering them cooperation and assistance as-sistance In securing uniform and equitable legislation means for secur ing a better observance of the law against overhead writing a material restriction of brokerage the taking of advance ground In the matter of sole acrcncles SecretaryTreasurer Frank Holmes of Chicago then made his annual report He recommendejl a new constitution and platform of principles A H Robinson of Louisville Ky chairman of the executive committee submitted his report On account of the absence of Chairman Chair-man Jackson of the grievance commit tee the report of that committee was read bv Thomas H Geer of Cleveland The report showed a large increase In number of complaints filed and Indicated Indi-cated the desire on the part of the company managers to assist in redressing redres-sing wrongs of agents The report called attention to the value of State associations In adjusting local differences differ-ences A recess was then taken until afternoon The business of the afternoon session was principally the reading of the reports re-ports of the committees on organization and legislation Mr II N Pinkhan chairman of the committee on State organization submitted sub-mitted Us report In part It says At the Buffalo meeting in JS90 It was 30 Since that Massachusetts Montana North Dakota Oklahoma Rhode Island Isl-and Virginia and West Virginia have organizer Of the fifty States and Territories Ter-ritories all are organized except Arizona Ari-zona Arkansas Delaware Florida In d ian Territory Idaho Maryland Nevada Oregon and South Dakota Some preliminary action has been ta ken In Florida Oregon and South Da kota Prompt reorganization work Is needed in Oregon California and Louisiana and some six or eight other State associations are inactive and need stirring up Mycr Cohen chairman of the committee com-mittee on legislation presented its report re-port After calling attention to the need of legislation favorable to insurance insur-ance Interests he said Something more than mere resolutions our part is needed In a movement for general enlightenment of the public respecting our business and to the end that Inimical Inimi-cal legislation shall not continue to Increase Sth la in my pplnion essential that each of us should go Into politics having In mind our future welfare and we need the assistance and coopera tion of our company to help us mold public opinion President Sheldon of the National Board of Fire Underwriters delivered an address and way followed by Um berto C Crosby of Now Hampshire |
