Show AN ATTEMPT AT DY NG I Mona Hilton of Commercial I I Street Takes Poison DOUBT AS TO THE AMOUNT l Physician Called Early Yesterday t Morning and Applied a Pump I with LifeSaving Result Two i Purchases of Laudanum Amount J ing to Four Ounces Supposed I Cause of the Effort to Kill Herself I Wrote a Letter of Explanation Too Many Sorrows i I I I Mona Hilton one of the proprietors of the Davenport house ou Commercial street attempted suicide about I oclock yesterday morning choosing as she has on former occasions the laudanum route A physician was summoned In time however and Mona thus bus another an-other opportunity to create a sensation or several of them The cause of the act this time is said to have been re creancy on the part of a lover A few days ago a baby that abe was much attached to died the next day her Cocker Spaniel breathed its last and early yesterday morning another baby who Is more than old enough to vote threatened to take his departure de-parture and never come back This last new grief was too much to be borne Writing a note to one of the inmates of the house asking to he buried near her baby and the dog and expressing the hope that the big baby would at times visit her grave she went to bed A messenger boy was then sent to I a drug slore for a couple of ounces uf laudanum and he told the clerk that it was wanted for a lady who had been suffering several hours with the I toothache The drug was given him and a few minutes later he came back I for a second supply Asked whether j the amount given him was not sufllcicnt t to stop one tooth from aching the J I deaf dumb blind and discreet messenger mes-senger who Is furnished at all hours replied that so far as he was aware it might be more than enough but the first bottle had been broken Another one was accordingly given him Thirty minutes later another messenger messen-ger was chasing around the street for a doctor with the Information that Mona had committed suicide With the usual appliamcs the poison was removed I from her stomach It was a matter of doubt at first wheiher the woman had actually swallowed the poison as she has a reputation as a bluffer but the attending physician said there was no doubt but she had swallowed some Just how much however It was diflicult to determine |
