day being brought out by House bill No 1C7 allowing cites of the first and second class to Increase their levy and Senate bill No 113 commonly called the polygamy bill which was passed by tho Senate Wednesday night Among the bills passed yesterday No 223 by Hamlln will especially appeal to the laboring classes The bill makes it a misdemeanor for any person In authority au-thority to require or contract with a laborer to work more than eight hours a day on any public worle TO FORCE OUT aiETCALP House bill No 208 by Anderson providing pro-viding for a principal and a superintendent superin-tendent for the School for the Deaf Dumb and Blind at Ogden instead of having one man hold both positions as at present precipitated a lively idls cus lon It Is claimed that the object of the bill Is to force the resignation of Superintendent Metcalf who has been with the school since Its commencement com-mencement but who has had more or less trouble with the trustee during the past year It is claimed that the Intention Is to appoint a superinten dent at a salary much higher than i that which will be offered to Prof I JJetcalf thus forcing him to sever his connection with the school of his own S accord because oChc insullicient salary Among the bills killed was one al lowing cities to Increase their lax two mills for contingent expenses although I corresponding decrease was made
